GW's own Undergraduate Economics student, Satya Vangoor, was selected to be a part of the prestigious Becker Friedman Institute's Expanding Diversity in Economics (EDE) program at the University of Chicago this summer. Satya is the first student from GW to be accepted into the fully funded three-week long program created to encourage students still early in their college career to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees in economics, especially for students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the field. Vangoor expressed her gratitude and appreciation as she reflected upon the experience:

"For the month of June, I had the privilege of participating in the Becker Friedman Institute's Expanding Diversity in Economics (EDE) program. During my time at EDE, I was exposed to the field of economics on a much deeper level than what would have been possible through a regular degree program. At the University of Chicago, I learned from professors and guest lecturers, including Nobel laureates Michael Kremer and Jim Heckman, about the wide array of research being done by economists. With the help of PhD student TAs, I built my data analysis skills through a short term group project using STATA. Then, during a week of programming in Washington D.C. hosted by The Brookings Institution, I was able to visit prestigious institutions such as the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve Board, The World Bank, and more. Above all, I am beyond thankful for all of the brilliant peers I had the opportunity to meet through the 2024 EDE cohort."

Congratulations Satya on this amazing experience and accomplishment!
