ALEKS Economics Placement Test

GW uses the online placement system Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces (ALEKS) to place incoming students in appropriate economics classes. All students must complete the test by the designated deadline for each semester.

Fall 2020 ALEKS test deadline will be announced when available.

Who Needs to Take ALEKS

This test is mandatory for any incoming student who wishes to register for ECON 1001 or ECON 1011. Students who are registered for either of these courses must receive the minimum score on the ALEKS math placement test prior to the deadline or they will be dropped from the course.

Minimum Required ALEKS Test Scores

If you do not receive the minimum ALEKS placement score for the course you have registered for by 11:59 p.m. on the night before the deadline, you will be dropped from the course and will need to find an alternative class.

  • ECON 1001: No minimum score required (but students must still complete the ALEKS test)
  • ECON 1011: 61

Recommended Plan of Study

The department offers recommended course schedules based on ALEKS scores.
